HOW IT WORKS
Our guide gives a clear, 10 step overview from registering with My Aged Care (MAC) and completing your MAC, RAS and ACAT assessments, to receiving your Ready Letter and starting services. It outlines timeframes and possible government contributions.

Register with My Aged Care
TimeFrame: 15-20 minutesBegin by contacting MyAgedCare on 1800 200 422 or applying online. You’ll provide basic personal and Medicare details, and nominate someone (a family member or advocate) to act on your behalf. This quick initial step gets your eligibility process underway.
If you choose to work with a provider like ACare WA the local Home Care Provider in Denmark, our team can assist you throughout the entire Home Care journey.
Things to Do
Get started by registering with My Aged Care. You’ll need your Medicare card and personal details. You can nominate a family member, carer, or advocate to support you.
Call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to start your registration.

Register with myGov
TimeFrame: (15–20 minutes)myGov is the Australian Government’s secure online portal for managing your Home Care Package, linking My Aged Care and Services Australia data so you can track your budget, services, and provider details in one place.
Things to Do
Gather the essentials—your email, Medicare card, and some personal details to set a myGov account and link it to My Aged Care. This lets you view your package, budget, and provider info online.
Create or log in to myGov: Visit www.my.gov.au; if you don’t already have an account, click “Create an account” and follow the prompts.
Link your My Aged Care service: Once logged in, select “Link a service,” choose “My Aged Care,” and enter your Medicare card or personal details for identity verification.
Confirm connection: After linking, navigate to your Home Care Package page to verify your provider, budget, and service details are visible.

MAC Assessment
TimeFrame: 1-2 weeksWithin a couple of weeks, a My Aged Care officer will call to discuss your health, daily living activities, and support needs. Answer questions openly and have any medical or lifestyle information ready so they can determine your initial eligibility for home care assistance.

RAS Assessment
TimeFrame: 2-4 weeksIf you only need entry-level services, you’ll be referred to the Regional Assessment Service (RAS). A regional assessor will review your existing supports—such as domestic help or meals—and approve you for Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) services, typically within a month.

ACAT Assessment
TimeFrame: 2-6 weeksThe Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) will visit you to evaluate your full range of care requirements. Be candid about your most challenging days and discuss possible supports (physiotherapy, equipment, transport). Their detailed assessment determines your official Home Care Package level.

Home Care Package Approval
TimeFrame: 1-2 weeksAfter ACAT, you’ll receive an official HCP approval letter within a week or two, indicating the level of Home Care Package you’ve been awarded and any special conditions. Carefully review this letter and share it with your chosen provider so they can prepare your care plan.

TimeFrame: ≈3 months before startAbout three months before your funds become available, you’ll get a “Ready Letter” notifying you that your Home Care Package is roughly 90 days away.
From the date on this letter, you have 53 days to select and confirm your service provider.

Commence Services
TimeFrame: 7 daysFinally, within a week of signing your agreement, your dedicated care team will arrive to begin delivering services in your home. You’ll establish a regular schedule and provide feedback after the first visit to ensure everything meets your expectations.
